Other Opportunities

Short-term Service
Those who are not able to commit a full year of service with Change a Heart have the opportunity to complete a shorter amount of service for six months commitment. Short-term program members still commit themselves to the four values of the program and live in community with year-long members. Some benefits such as health insurance and the full Americorps education award may not be available to short-term members. Contact the Change a Heart Program office for more information.

Alternative Winter and Spring Breaks
We currently host week-long alternative winter and spring break experiences in Pittsburgh, Pa. to college students looking to put their faith into action through a week-long service experience. Alternative spring break students stay for the week on the Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse campus. Students are welcome to eat meals with our sisters in the main dining room. Work assignments are planned by the Change a Heart staff and include service at local non-profit agencies. They may include work in the following areas:

Here is what former college students have said about their alternative break experiences:

“The sisters showed us through their example how to live simply, with humility, and with love
for every person.”

“This entire experience has emphasized the call
of serving God by reaching out with love, compassion and understanding.”

“This trip has been a life-changing experience
I will treasure forever.”
