What three words come to mind as you think of your overall experience with
Change a Heart?
Growth, Spirituality, Appreciation
What motivated you to be a Change a Heart volunteer?
My desire to grow closer in Christ in all aspects of my life: community, simplicity, work, and spiritual growth, and to use the experiences to guide me in the right direction as I entered a whole new realm of my life.
What was your most fulfilling/memorable experience?
While I have many, I would say the most memorable would be the work I did with the homecare nurses at my placement. We took care of one elderly patient in particular who had cancer. Even though he was ill, he always made us feel like royalty and was so appreciative, genuine, and kind.
Name one thing you learned and why.
It made me realize that faith can heal you, and that I should be more appreciative of all the things I am blessed with each and every day.
What do the values of the program mean to you in your life today?
I incorporate all of the values in some way in my life today. I live in a community
of housemates and classmates where we openly communicate and learn about our spirituality. We learn more about the service we can do when become health care providers, and we extend that service to the community in which we live in many different ways.
What advice would you share with a new Change a Heart volunteer?
Jump in with an open heart and open mind and you'll be surprised at how much you'll take
away in the end.
